Divi AI Agents: What It Actually Does In The Builder
Elegant Themes put an agent inside Divi 5 on 4 September 2026. It takes an instruction in ordinary language and then does the thing, on the page you are looking at. This is what that means in practice, and where it currently stops.
It Acts, It Does Not Just Suggest
The difference between this and the AI features Divi already had is that the earlier ones handed you text or an image and left the building to you. The agent edits the page itself: it adds, clones, moves and deletes elements, changes design settings, updates presets, and handles the responsive variants rather than leaving you to repeat the work at each breakpoint.
It also takes reference material as input. You can hand it a screenshot, a mockup or the URL of a site you like, and ask for a layout built from it.
The Boring Work Is The Interesting Part
The demos will show a hero section appearing out of a sentence. The part that will actually save a working day is the bulk editing: standardising typography, spacing and colour across a page, consolidating repeated styles into global variables, adding alt text for accessibility, and reviewing the custom CSS and JavaScript that has collected in a project.
Those are the jobs everybody postpones because each one is twenty minutes of clicking. An agent that does them on request changes whether they get done at all.
It Reaches Outside The Builder
The agent is not confined to the page. It can create, update, duplicate, publish and schedule pages and posts, reorganise navigation menus, create and assign Theme Builder templates, work with Divi Library items, and update supported Theme Options, without going back to wp-admin for each one.
It can also answer questions. It searches the Divi documentation, inspects the modules and settings on the page you are on, and explains how a feature works with the context of your actual site rather than a generic answer.
What It Cannot Do Yet
Elegant Themes are direct about this, and it is worth repeating rather than discovering: the outside-the-builder skills are limited at launch. The release is focused on what happens inside the builder, and the site-level work is the newer, thinner half.
Underneath it are more than 220 purpose-built skills for interacting with Divi and WordPress, and you can choose which AI model runs them or let Divi pick.
Our Read
The thing worth watching is not whether it can build a hero section. It is whether it can be trusted with the repetitive, site-wide work that nobody enjoys and everybody defers, because that is where the hours actually go. On a client site we would give it the bulk edits and the audits first, and keep the layout decisions.
Whatever it produces is still ordinary Divi output, which is the part that matters most: nothing it builds is locked to it.
